University of Santo Tomas (UST) – College of Nursing

ust logo The University of Santo Tomas is the oldest existing university in Asia and in terms of student population, the largest Catholic university in the world located in one campus. It was founded on April 28, 1611 by the third Archbishop of Manila, Msgr. Miguel de Benavides, O.P., together with Frs. Domingo de Nieva and Bernardo de Santa Catalina. It was originally conceived as a school to prepare young men for the priesthood.

College of Nursing (1946)

Program Description:
The BSN Program is a four-year program designed to prepare a professional nurse to render nursing care to individuals, families, and groups in any setting at any stage of the health-illness continuum.  The curriculum is competency-and problem-based where the basic concepts in Nursing and the roles and responsibilities the students are expected to assume after graduation is considered.

UST College Of Nursing logo The aim of the College of Nursing is to prepare nurses who are scientifically informed, technically, socially aware, appreciative of one’s culture and deeply committed to carry out their professional and individual responsibilities in accordance with Christian ideals by providing for:

  • The acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to function as self-directing persons and committed professional nurse practitioners.
  • The continued total development of the individual;
  • The development of the potential qualities for leadership, research and teaching;
  • The preparation of the critical thinking , professional nurse who demonstrates competence for beginning nursing staff positions in the hospital and community setting;
  • Eligibility for graduate and advance studies.

Currently a Nursing Local Board Examination Reviewer. Subjects handled are Pediatric, Obstetric and Psychiatric Nursing. Previous work experiences include: Clinical instructor/lecturer, clinical coordinator (Level II), caregiver instructor/lecturer, NC2 examination reviewer and staff/clinic nurse. Areas of specialization: Emergency room, Orthopedic Ward and Delivery Room. Also an IELTS passer.
