Relaxation Techniques to Get Rid of Stress

In reality, we cannot control what happens to us. This is the reason why individuals react differently to a difficulty. Challenging situations may cause an individual to feel distraught. Getting anxious over things is not just a mentally taxing condition. Matter of fact, it is a physical one too.

When a person is stressed out, he or she becomes more prone to having colds and flu. Not only that, he is a good candidate to host a chronic and serious condition. Hence, the lesser a person is open to experiencing some fun to take out the stress away, anxiety will mount up. To benefit the body emotionally and physically apply these recommendations to keep anxious feelings away.

  1. Breathe in and out. To help a person relax almost instantly, breathing from the diaphragm should be done. To alleviate feelings of stress, place the hand at the abdomen just below the navel and inhale through the nose slowly. Holding the breath for a few seconds before exhaling makes this procedure effective.
  2. Imagine that your environment is calm. This is an effective strategy as it keeps a person away from the negative situations. To reduce stress levels, the person should close his or her eyes. Then three long and slow breaths should be done. Spend some time to picture out the relaxing scene. The details should be highlighted as they tend to lower feelings of anxiety.
  3. Massage the palm of hand with the thumbs of the other hand. If you don’t want to use the thumbs, a massage gadget may be used too.
  4. Smile. When a person smiles when not feeling better, negative vibes tends to go away. Smiling transmits impulses to the emotional center of the brain which makes a person feel happy.
  5. Silently speak you personal mantra. Telling yourself statements such as ‘I can do this!’ or ‘I can calm down’ can are good affirmations which silences the critical voices in the head.
  6. When in stress, do not ever grind your teeth. Stress settles in some parts of the body, particularly the jaw. Gritting those precious whites when in a crisis won’t help. So next time you get yourself in a hectic situation, unclench those teeth.
  7. Count to 10. When faced with a stressor it is best to take a time off to collect your composure back. Counting 1-10 may help or moving away from the stressor is a good response.
