The Far Eastern University – Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation or FEU-NRMF Institute of Medicine was born from a vision of Dr. Nicanor Reyes Sr.
In October 22, 1955, the FEU Hospital opened its doors as a charitable institution and provided actual hospital training for students in medicine and nursing. Erected on a trapezoidal lot at the northeastern part of the campus in Morayta Street (now Nicanor Reyes Sr. Avenue). Built and eqquiped at a cost of P1.5 million, designed by Architect Felipe Mendoza in collaboration with the Hospital Committee chaired by Lauro Panganiban MD, Nicanor Reyes Jr., Angel Palanca, and Ricardo Alfonso MD who later became the first Hospital Director.
In 1970, the Institute of Medicine, School of Medical Technology, FEU Hospital and the Student Health Service Clinic were converted into a non-stock, non-profit educational foundation known as the FEU Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation.
Through the years, it has contributed some of the finest names in the healthcare field: four Secretaries of Health, seven Philippine Medical Association Presidents, six Presidents of the Philippine College of Surgeons and one President of the World Medical Association. In 1986, the Board of Medical Education, DECS, and the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges gave the Institute the highest level of accreditation, and awarded it as a Center of Excellence in Medical Education.
In December 22, 1996, Dr. Josephine Reyes (NRMF Chairman and former FEU President), presided over the groundbreaking of the new P500 million modern medical school and hospital in West Fairview Quezon City.
In 2001, the new facilities of the Medical Foundation were formally inaugurated which was attended by former President Corazon Aquino as guest of honor.
At present, the hospital operates with 141 pay beds, 99 charity beds, and boasts of state-of-the-art facilities at par with leading tertiary hospitals.
The last meeting of the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges, CHED presented the 5-year summary of board passing rank of medical schools. FEU-IM ranked 3rd overall with the highest passing averages after UP and UST.

Nurses make up the largest component of the health service delivery performing a vast array of interventions to patients; but because of the shrinking pool of qualified nurses due to overseas employment, the need to have more of them in order to buffer the adverse effects of the exodus becomes a major concern of the nursing service administrators and nursing educators.
In October 2002, the Board of Trustees of the FEU-Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation passed a resolution to establish the School of Nursing that will meet the standards of the profession and educational accreditation.
It was on May 5, 2003, when the permit to operate the school was granted by the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) for a four-year course leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
The program ensures the production of nursing graduates who are committed to the clinical and academic excellence, life-long learning and research.
The program of the School of Nursing of FEU-NRMF seeks to produce:
A fully functioning nurse in various Philippine settings as well as world communities equipped with basic knowledge, skills and wholesome attitudes in the delivery of nursing care services as envisioned by the various sectors of the Philippine society in the context of very recent changes in the scientific, technological, political, social, economic and cultural changes that have affected our country.
The graduate of this program should have:
1. Developed awareness of the health needs of the society as well as commitment to the alleviation of problems arising there from.
2. Acquired the necessary skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary for the attainment of the four fundamentals goals of nursing namely:
a. promotion of health
b. prevention of illness
c. restoration of health
d. alleviation of suffering
3. Developed a research attitude utilizing the nursing process as the basic framework, which should lead to the utilization of research findings.
Specific Level Objectives:
The BSN Curriculum aims to produce the following sequential levels of competencies:
At the end of the first year the student should have acquired an awareness of himself, as an individual, as a member of a group (family, community and the world) with emphasis on his rights, responsibilities and of his environment (physical, socio-cultural and political).
At the end of the second year, the student should have acquired:
1.A holistic understanding of man as a bio – psycho socio – cultural being with maintenance of health as the main focus the common stresses of life and man’s coping abilities.
2.A sense of responsibility as a citizen and awareness of the role of the nursing profession in the political and social institutions of the country such as the family, the government its health care delivery system.
3.Beginning skills in the use of the nursing process as a basis for health care delivery.
At the end of the 3rd year, the student should have acquired:
1.A broad concept of illness from the epidemiological, ecological, socio – economic, cultural and biological perspectives.
2.Knowledge of psycho social, pathological process and coping mechanisms of individual, family and community as essential components of the nursing process.
At the end of the 4th year the student should have acquired:
The skills, knowledge and attitude necessary for professional practice for working independently or in collaboration with others in the promotion of health, prevention of illness, alleviation of suffering and restoration of health in whatever setting she may find herself in.
