I’ve had skin breakouts when I got pregnant with my first child. My OB Gynecologist said that pregnant women are prone to acne due to higher levels of hormones called androgens that prompts the sebaceous glands to boost production of an oily substance called sebum. This extra sebum, combined with the shed skin cells that line your hair follicles, blocks your pores, creating an environment in which bacteria can rapidly multiply. All this eventually leads to the inflammation and skin eruptions of acne. She did not recommend any acne treatments because according to her those pimples will eventually disappear right after my pregnancy. I did my own research in the internet and found some simple home remedies that did a good job on controlling my acne breakout. This includes toothpaste, lemon and some extra virgin coconut oil.
