CHECKLIST FOR PARTIAL BATH AND ORAL CARE

  1. Explain the procedure and purpose. Prepare equipment at bedside                   
  2. Screen the bed                                                                                    
  3. Remove extra pillow and loosen top sheet, offer bedpan and remove the gown
  4. Place bath towel across the chest.
  5. Wash eyes from inner to outer can thus, starting from the father eye, then the face and neck using the S method with the wash cloth then dry.
  6. Place bath towel lengthwise under patient’s forearm, applying long firm strokes distal to proximal. Dry
  7. Repeat on the nearer arm.
  8. Wash both hands.
  9. Put on patient’s gown.
  10. Proceed to oral care and explain the procedure to the patient.
  11. Position the patient properly and comfortably, place towel under the chin( remove dentures if there’s any )
  12. Gargle with water, place emesis basis under the chin.
  13. Give the toothbrush with a cleansing agent. Hold the emesis basin with one hand and a glass of water with the other hand.
  14. For patients who are unable to do oral care for themselves, the nurse brushes the teeth of the patient using up and down stroke, then the tongue and offer water for gargling.
  15. Wipe patient’s mouth.

Care of Dentures

  1. Place in the kidney basin and bush under running water. Rinse and return to patient.
  2. Comb the patient’s hair.
  3. Puff the pillow away from the patient and remove crumbs on bed. Place patient on backrest and make ready for breakfast.
